Bio
Hi, My name is Peter and I am an experienced piano teacher based in the Prospect/ Blacktown area.
I have been playing piano from an early age, and have been tutoring music for the past 35 years for people who have been interested in learning and taking the musical journey.
The customised lesson plans that I provide are catered for all skill levels from beginner to advanced. My lessons incorporate both practical and theoretical components preparing students to undertake examinations when required, which have had a high success rate.
Lessons take place after school hours at my home studio. So, if you are thinking of taking up a new skill which is enjoyable and rewarding, then look no further than Mercia’s Music School.
Teaching Info
Lessons are conducted at my home studio and are available in 30-minute, 40-minute, or 60-minute sessions. The lesson duration is based on the student’s preference but also considers factors such as grade level, current materials, and stage within the curriculum.
Lesson content is tailored to suit each student and may include:
-
Theoretical skill building
-
Note recognition
-
Technical work and scale introduction
-
Aural skills
-
Sight reading
-
General piano or music knowledge
I assign homework after each session to be completed throughout the week. Consistent practice outside of lesson time is essential for reinforcing concepts and making steady progress. I would like to see students show some form of development between lessons.
Each session begins with 5–10 minutes dedicated to reviewing homework and assessing the student’s progress. I address any difficulties before moving forward, ensuring a solid understanding of each concept before introducing new material.
Lessons are paced individually, taking into account how quickly each student absorbs new information. Students typically work on one or two pieces at a time, allowing focused learning in each area.
Music styles covered include classical, jazz, and popular/contemporary genres—either aligned with the student’s interests or integrated into the workbook curriculum. I can recommend suitable workbooks and supply them for an additional cost.
I strongly encourage students to consider taking music examinations. Exams provide a structured goal and a sense of achievement, helping to build confidence and musical discipline.
Pete is a wonderfully talented music teacher. He coached me through to grade 8 piano for leisure. Highly recommended to anyone looking for piano lessons.

Peter has been coaching me in music theory for the past few months, and it's been a great experience. He's done an awesome job, and tailored the lessons to my needs and to my pace. He's super knowledgeable, clearly passionate aboutmusic, and has made learning theory actually enjoyable. If you're looking to level up your understanding of music, I would highly recommend Peter.
