Bio

I began my musical studies at the Juan Manuel Olivares Music School in Caracas, Venezuela.   From 1983-1987 I attended courses at the Juilliard School of Music in New York. In 1988 I won a scholarship to continue my studies in the former USSR and completed my Master of Music Degree and Degree as a Violin Concert Performer & Teacher. I graduated from the Yerevan State Conservatorium and have over 30 years of experience in both teaching and performing. I played for many years with the Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra of Venezuela (El Sistema), Soloists of Venezuela Orchestra, Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra, Willoughby Symphony Orchestra and as a soloist with the Penrith Symphony Orchestra.

Since arriving to Australia I have taught at the Australian Institute of Music, Newington College, University of Western Sydney, Burwood Girls High School, and The McDonald College of the Performing Arts. Currently, I teach at UNSW, St. Patrick’s College in Strathfield and government schools. Besides this, I teach privately at my home studio.

As a violin and piano recitalist, I have performed in the former USSR, Venezuela, USA, Colombia at Sydney Opera House, Sydney Town Hall, Willoughby Town Hall, City Concert Hall Angel Place, Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Center, Canberra School of Music, Melba Hall in Melbourne and many other halls.

Teaching Info

I love the violin. It has to sound beautifully when one plays on it. I always try to the best of my abilities to help the student make the violin sound beautiful. I had the opportunity to be part of the world renown El Sistema program in Venezuela as a member of the Simon Bolivar Orchestra and later on teaching at the Conservatory of El Sistema.

For my lessons, I use the traditional method, Russian method, Suzuki method and also some of the new contemporary methods that teach the student the basics in  how to read music. I also incorporate scales, studies, pieces, concertos, sonatas and duos in my lessons. I encourage the student to create a daily regular practice routine and also sight reading practice. I am sensitive to the needs of each individual student and I center my teaching to help students reach their goals.

I work with students of all levels and ages. I have extensive experience in preparing students from the preliminary grade right through to the AMUSA and LMUSA of the AMEB violin Syllabus and the Suzuki Method. Furthermore, I also teach the traditional violin methods (Hohmann, Laoureux, Doflein, Applebaum) and from the Russian Violin School (Auer, Grigorian, Seagal, Yampolsky, Mostras, Yankelevich) combined with scales and traditional etudes (Mazas, Fiorillo, Kreutzer, Rode, Don’t, Gavinies).
