Bio

BIO:

Lam started learning the piano at the age of 7 and got ABRSM Grade 8 piano (Merit) in 2013. She proceeded to pursue further studies in music, attaining the ABRSM Grade 8 music theory (Merit). Lam is from Hong Kong and majored in traditional Chinese Medicine (including herbal medicine, acupuncture and clinical therapy) and graduated with Bachelor of Medicine (Specialty of Chinese Medicine), with currently pursuing a master’s degree. However, Lam has passion for music, she then instructed music theory in music societies and associations, pursuing careers in both medical-field and music education. Moreover, Lam has achieved recognition in piano competitions receiving several awards. She has been engaged in music teaching for many years to students at various ages and levels. Her rich experiences have been well received and met with positive feedback, as well as she has been recognized as a member of numerous professional music associations.

TEACHING INFO:

The objective of Lam’s teaching is to help students not only to achieve good results in piano examinations and competitions but also to foster a deeper understanding of musical compositions and the means of expressing themselves through music. With experiences in both music pedagogy and daily piano practice, a diverse range of practice methods and techniques are explored and created on her own, which are crucial for effective and efficient piano practice, and equip students with the skills to overcome the technical challenges and difficulties inherent in the pieces. Lam majored in Chinese medicine, which has equipped her with a comprehensive understanding of the structure of the human body. She teaches students how to avoid hand injuries when practising the piano and how to relax the hands appropriately when performing, thereby ensuring the effective protection of the hands. Lam is a multilingual teacher speaking 4 languages, with proficiency in Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese, Hokkien, and English, enabling her to communicate effectively with students from diverse linguistic backgrounds.

 

TEACHING EXPERIENCES:

– Highest score among Lam’s students in ABRSM Music Theory Exam is 72/75 (distinction), 100% passing rate for all of Lam’s students.

– Taught music theory at the college’s music society and association, and served as a church piano accompanist.

– Experience of teaching in different cities or countries, including Sydney Australia, Hong Kong and Guangzhou China, having comprehensive understanding of the different educational systems and pedagogical approaches of different places.

– Many years of experiences, suit individual aptitude and abilities for a different approach to teach, and answer students’ questions patiently.
