Bio

**FULLY BOOKED – Feel free to contact me if you’d like to be kept in mind for if/when vacancies open up.**

Hi! My name’s Eric and I’m a young, passionate and highly experienced performer looking to share my passion for music at an accessible, affordable price.

I teach piano, alto saxophone, music theory & musicianship, and school/HSC musicology & performance. I’m happy to travel to your home in most regions of Sydney; if you’re not sure about whether your location is convenient, please just ask!

I was awarded a CMus with Honours for Piano in 2013, AMusA(Piano) in 2014, and CMus with Honours for Saxophone in 2015. I came 1st in Music Extension at Sydney Grammar School and was nominated for ENCORE as one of the top HSC performers in NSW in 2018. I have over 10 years’ experience playing the piano, and 6 years for alto saxophone. I have achieved the highest qualification in AMEB Theory of Music (Grade 6). I also have experience in piano accompaniment, chamber music and ensemble playing (including as a concerto soloist), and have played saxophone in small ensembles, wind bands (e.g. as part of the Gold award-winning SGS Wind Ensemble) and jazz bands (e.g. as part of the 2018 Manly Jazz All-Stars Big Band).

Rates for piano and saxophone lessons are $40/hour or $25/half hour. Music theory & musicianship lessons are $35/hour or $20/half hour. Please contact me if you’d like to do longer lessons or video/Skype lessons, or if you have any questions whatsoever 🙂

Teaching Info

I love music and I’d love to share my passion with you or your children! Whether it’s for exams, auditions, performances, HSC or just for fun, I’m absolutely committed to helping people get the most out of the wonderful and multifaceted world of music.

Having blitzed through AMEB exams and HSC Music 2 & Music Extension myself, I’m in a great position to tutor students looking to follow those streams of study. However, I’m also very happy to teach for exams, auditions, performances or just for leisure.

My teaching philosophy is all about enjoyment and fulfilment. As a recently graduated student myself, I can draw from the teaching styles that most helped and inspired me to get to where I am today. I want students to enjoy music of their own accord, and so I endeavour to make my lessons fun but also motivating. That said, I am flexible and would have no hesitation in catering to your individual goals, abilities and learning types.

I seek also to provide fulfilment by instilling in my students a holistic understanding of music, focusing not just on performance but on history, musicology and stylistic understanding across a whole range of repertoire. I am also willing to teach basic music theory for free as part of instrumental lessons. (For AMEB examination coaching and the like, separate lessons are recommended.)
