Bio
I have been playing flute for 20 years and have successfully completed all AMEB grades (up to 8th) as well as the Certificate of Performance and the Associate Diploma of music (AMUS).
I graduated from Sydney Conservatorium of Music (University of Sydney) with a Bachelor of Music Education (Honours First Class) and am currently a high school music teacher.
I am a keen and enthusiastic teacher and I enjoy making the most out of the potential of young musicians.
Teaching Info
I enjoy working with students of all ages and helping them to discover music. I introduce a wide range of musical styles through sight-reading, repertoire, duet work and general knowledge. A student’s weekly lesson should be a time of inspiration as well hard work.
Lessons include technical work (including tone exercises, scalic work, expressive techniques, rhythmic exercises), repertoire (from a range of styles right from Baroque to Contemporary, Jazz and Popular music), Sight-reading, duets, General knowledge, performance & rehearsal skills and aural skills.
I encourage my students to work towards an AMEB exam as this is a great goal to have throughout the year but completing these are not compulsory. Working on repertoire for school bands and ensembles is also possible.
My main priority is for students to learn about music in a variety of ways and to enjoy playing the flute. I make an effort to ensure that a student’s lesson is engaging and relevant to their individual needs, skills and interests.
